Loops of the bandstand and ice creams at the cafe in Roberts Park, Saltaire
My favourite place in the world right now is Roberts Park in Saltaire, a beautiful UNESCO world heritage village near Bradford. Having become a mum two years ago, I now really appreciate simple but entertaining things to do and Roberts Park never fails to deliver. Whether it be a brisk winter’s day or a warm summer’s evening, the park is always bustling and lively.
There’s a river and canal with ducks to feed and kingfishers to spot, a great adventure playground and a big expanse of grass to run or kick a ball across. One of our favourite spots is the bandstand which houses the local band in the summer and is a great place for toddlers to run around in the rest of the time! And let’s not forget the cute Half Moon café serving Yorkshire ice cream, perfect for when energy levels need restoring. The life-sized bronzed alpacas outside are also a delight for toddlers – mine likes to hug them!
On a summer’s day, I recommend heading up to the top of the park (Baildon side) for little areas of grass that are quiet and well away from the crowds and ball games – perfect for picnics. From this side of the park you can visit the Shipley Glen tramway to enjoy a breathtaking view of the Aire Valley. Also nearby is the famous Salts Mill, great for a spot of lunch or slow mooch around on a wet day.
